China-Germany Partnership Enhances Bilateral Technological and Innovation Collaboration

Date:

China and Germany are enhancing their collaborative efforts in business and technology, as highlighted by a joint research report unveiled in Beijing. This report indicates a shift towards mutual exchange of expertise and innovation between the two nations, moving beyond the traditional flow from Germany to China. The findings were presented at the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026, an event that brought together over 400 executives and business leaders from both regions in Beijing’s Shunyi district.

The study reveals European companies’ plans to expand their operations in China, with 38 percent of surveyed firms intending to boost research and development investments within the country. Additionally, 40 percent of these companies are considering granting their Chinese subsidiaries more autonomy from their German headquarters. This shift in strategy underscores a growing confidence in the Chinese market and its technological potential.

In a reciprocal move, prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, including Li Auto and NIO, have set up research and design centers in Germany. This development signifies a deepening of two-way technological collaboration, as Chinese companies seek to leverage German expertise in automotive innovation to enhance their competitive edge globally.

The forum also served as the platform for launching a public service station aimed at assisting businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers. Moreover, a new partnership initiative was introduced to encourage German and European enterprises to engage with Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi, fostering a more integrated business environment.

Beijing’s commitment to nurturing this bilateral cooperation was underscored by Tang Wenhong, who emphasized the city’s intention to support partnerships between Chinese and German firms. The goal is to attract more innovative enterprises to Beijing, solidifying its status as an international hub for science and technology.
