In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged for strengthened ties and broader cooperation with Egypt during his visit to Cairo. This visit marks an important milestone as China and Egypt celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring the enduring connection between the two nations.
Upon their arrival in Cairo, President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife. Ahead of his visit, Xi emphasized the resilience of the China-Egypt relationship amid shifting global dynamics. He advocated for efforts to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership and identified new avenues for collaboration.
Highlighting shared national ambitions, Xi encouraged both countries to align their development strategies. He emphasized the importance of collaboration within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on practical projects that promise long-term economic benefits. Xi also called for expanded partnerships in various sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties.
President Xi underscored the need for China and Egypt to support each other on major international issues and safeguard their mutual interests. He positioned Egypt as a crucial partner in bolstering China’s ties with Arab and African countries. Both nations, he stated, are pivotal members of the Global South and should enhance coordination on international matters, champion multilateral cooperation, and work together to advance global peace and stability.
The visit is anticipated to bolster political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, unlocking new opportunities for collaboration in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors. Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt, building on their seven-decade diplomatic history and injecting new vigor into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
