South Korea Leverages E-Visas to Boost Chinese and Indian Tourism

Date:

In a strategic move to revitalize its tourism industry, South Korea has decided to extend its visa fee waiver for group tourists from six countries, including major markets China and India, until December 31, 2026. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance cultural connections and increase tourism from these nations. The waiver specifically targets group travelers from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Cambodia.

The Ministry of Justice in South Korea announced that this extension aims to support the ongoing recovery of the tourism sector, which has witnessed a steady increase in visitors from China and Southeast Asia. By removing visa fees, the country hopes to make it more appealing for group tours to choose South Korea as their destination, thereby boosting both tourism numbers and economic engagement.

In addition to the visa fee waiver, South Korea is implementing further strategies to draw international tourists. These include launching expansive marketing campaigns and offering long-term multiple-entry visas to eligible travelers. Tourism officials are optimistic that these measures will not only attract more visitors but also strengthen cultural and economic exchanges with neighboring nations.

China remains a pivotal source of inbound tourists for South Korea, and industry experts predict that the extended visa fee waiver will significantly increase the number of Chinese visitors. This surge is anticipated to benefit various sectors such as retail, hospitality, and duty-free shopping. The growing influx of tourists from China and other Southeast Asian countries is expected to bolster broader economic and bilateral cooperation between these regions and South Korea.
