China Challenges Japan’s Military Tech Growth Amid Ukraine Drone Collaboration Reports

Date:

China has voiced its concerns regarding Japan’s increasing military activities, suggesting that Japan’s recent defense strategies may threaten regional peace and stability. During a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed reports of Ukrainian drone companies seeking collaboration with Japanese partners. He emphasized that international cooperation should aim to enhance regional stability and security, rather than escalate tensions.

Guo highlighted Japan’s trend toward military expansion in recent years, which includes the development of medium- and long-range offensive capabilities. He noted that Japan has been easing restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, expanding the operational scope of its Self-Defense Forces, and strengthening security ties with countries outside the region. These actions, according to Guo, extend beyond the confines of Japan’s postwar defense framework and challenge the principles of its traditionally defense-oriented security policy.

The spokesperson warned that such military advancements could potentially undermine the post-World War II international order and contradict Japan’s longstanding image as a nation committed to peace. By pursuing these military enhancements, Japan risks departing from its historical commitment to maintaining a defense-oriented stance, Guo argued.

China has urged the international community to be vigilant about what it perceives as growing signs of militarization in the region. The Chinese government calls for concerted efforts to maintain regional stability, stressing the importance of collaborative international action to prevent a destabilizing arms race or conflict escalation.
