Xi Urges BRICS to Leverage Tech for Sovereignty in Iran-US Conflict

Date:

At the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of opposing breaches of national sovereignty and external interference in countries’ internal matters. Xi highlighted that the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States does not align with the collective interests of the global community. He committed to collaborating with fellow BRICS nations to foster peace and actively contribute to resolving Middle East tensions.

President Xi called upon the BRICS bloc to assume a constructive role in settling international disputes and safeguarding the principles of sovereignty and non-interference. The summit, which aims to enhance trade, investment, and tackle major global conflicts, underscores BRICS’s ambition to amplify its influence among emerging and developing economies.

Gathering leaders such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian alongside other BRICS members, the summit occurs against the backdrop of the Iran-US conflict, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and persistent US-China tensions. These global challenges highlight the summit’s importance in seeking dialogue and cooperation among these key nations.

This visit marks President Xi’s first trip to India since 2019, signifying a step towards improving Sino-Indian relations after a period of discord. During the summit, Xi and Modi are scheduled to engage in bilateral talks aimed at strengthening their countries’ ties and addressing mutual concerns.
