Xi Jinping’s Message on China–Africa Exchanges Receives Warm Response Across Africa

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s message marking the 2026 China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges has drawn positive reactions from African leaders and experts, who said it reflects China’s strong commitment to deepening ties and mutual understanding with Africa.
In his message, Xi highlighted that the initiative coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, calling it an important step toward strengthening public support for long-term friendship and cooperation at a new historical stage.
African leaders welcomed the message as a symbol of unity and shared values. Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie said Xi’s words conveyed a spirit of brotherhood and hope, especially meaningful in today’s uncertain global environment. Officials from the African Union also said the message reaffirmed Africa’s confidence in working closely with China.
Experts and analysts from across the continent noted that China–Africa relations are rooted in mutual respect, shared benefits and long-standing civilizational exchanges. They said people-to-people cooperation plays a vital role in strengthening strategic partnerships and overcoming cultural misunderstandings.
Several commentators emphasized that closer exchanges between the peoples of China and Africa can contribute to Global South solidarity, help address common global challenges and support sustainable development. They added that cooperation in areas such as poverty reduction, food security, industrialization and youth development has strengthened Africa’s role in global governance.
Observers also said the China–Africa partnership offers a model for other Global South countries, demonstrating how cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit can support a more balanced and inclusive international order.
