During a recent visit to Inner Mongolia, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the critical importance of ecological conservation and sustainable development for the nation. His calls for action were made while inspecting Ulanqab, where he focused on wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the development of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.
At Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi reviewed ongoing efforts to restore the lake, which had previously faced significant threats from climate change and other pressures. Over the years, conservation measures have successfully expanded the lake’s water body. Xi underscored the necessity of implementing China’s wetland protection law and maintaining strict ecological protection boundaries, advocating for natural restoration of degraded wetlands supplemented by scientific intervention where required.
Another focal point of Xi’s visit was the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, where he assessed the progress of the “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This national strategy aims to optimize the distribution of computing resources across China. Xi stressed the importance of ensuring the efficient operation of completed projects and the timely completion of ongoing developments. He urged the promotion of efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe computing infrastructure to bolster China’s digital economy while supporting sustainable growth.
In addition to ecological and technological concerns, Xi also evaluated local agricultural and livestock products, encouraging officials to enhance the connection between production and markets. This effort is aimed at increasing the incomes of farmers and herders, reinforcing the integration of environmental sustainability with economic development in the region.
