China’s Top Legislature to Convene 18th Session from October 24 to 28

China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee will hold its 18th session in Beijing from October 24 to 28, as announced during a meeting chaired by Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
According to the proposed agenda, lawmakers will review draft revisions to several key laws, including the Maritime Law, the Organic Law of Villagers’ Committees, and the Organic Law of Urban Residents’ Committees. They will also deliberate on amendments to the Cybersecurity Law and the Environmental Protection Tax Law.
In addition, the session will consider proposals on a draft law for procuratorial public-interest litigation, as well as a draft law on farmland protection and quality improvement, submitted by the State Council. Lawmakers will also examine various international conventions and treaties.
Reports on financial management, state-owned assets, and criminal punishment enforcement will be presented by the State Council, alongside updates from the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and other NPC committees.
