China and Uzbekistan have bolstered their cooperation across various sectors including infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and trade, following an official visit by Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Uzbekistan. During the two-day visit in Tashkent, Premier Li engaged in discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, resulting in the signing of numerous cooperation agreements.
A significant focus of the agreements is the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and spur economic growth. The two nations have committed to advancing this project, which is seen as a key driver for improving trade routes and economic ties. Additionally, China is encouraging its companies to invest in Uzbekistan, while the Uzbek government has expressed its willingness to provide a favorable business environment for such investments.
The countries also aim to deepen collaboration in energy, mineral resources, modern agriculture, digital technology, environmental protection, and artificial intelligence. China has shown interest in importing more high-quality products from Uzbekistan, and there is mutual intent to expand market access between the two countries.
China continues to be Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $16.1 billion last year—a 17.9 percent increase from the previous year. This economic partnership underscores the growing importance of their strategic relationship.
Beyond economic ties, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building political trust and promoting exchanges in culture, education, and tourism. They also pledged to enhance coordination on regional and international issues, further solidifying their strategic partnership.
