At the recent 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, China emphasized the need for a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for its companies operating in the United Kingdom. This call for equitable conditions comes as both nations aim to enhance cooperation and bolster their bilateral ties. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that the UK would foster favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises, thereby supporting the ongoing development of mutual relations.

Wang highlighted the resumption of exchanges and collaborations across various sectors, which have picked up momentum following recent high-level engagements between the two countries. He underscored the significance of sustaining dialogue, expanding practical cooperation, and advocating for multilateralism, especially amidst the rising uncertainties on the global stage. The discussions also underscored the influential roles of China and the UK in tackling global challenges and advocating for a more balanced global governance system.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reaffirmed Britain’s dedication to maintaining a stable and constructive relationship with China. She emphasized the increasing importance of stronger dialogue and cooperation as both countries navigate a complex international landscape. Cooper reiterated the UK’s consistent stance on the Taiwan issue and expressed support for continued engagement with China, advocating for managing differences through dialogue.

Economic and trade cooperation were central themes of the talks, with a particular focus on exploring opportunities in emerging sectors like science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation.
