Marketing Expert Slams Musk: Tesla’s Brand in Freefall After ‘Doge’ Government Role

Date:

Tesla’s once-stellar reputation has taken a nosedive, with US marketing professor Scott Galloway calling Elon Musk’s foray into government cost-cutting “one of the greatest brand destructions” ever. On the Pivot podcast, Galloway argued that Musk’s alignment with Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) alienated Tesla’s core customers—many of whom don’t share Musk’s new political alliances. Tesla’s brand ranking plummeted from 8th to 95th place, while sales tanked across Europe and Chinese rival BYD outsold Tesla for the first time on the continent. Musk has since announced he’ll scale back his government role after Tesla profits dropped 71%, but the damage to the brand may be lasting.
