Xi and Stubb Celebrate 75 Years of China–Finland Diplomatic Relations

Date:

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Finnish President Alexander Stubb exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Finland, underscoring a long-standing partnership that began in 1950.
In his message, President Xi highlighted Finland’s pioneering role as one of the first Western nations to recognize the People’s Republic of China and the first capitalist country to formalize trade ties through the 1953 intergovernmental trade agreement. He emphasized that the two nations had built a resilient relationship spanning politics, trade, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, while navigating global changes and differing political systems.
President Stubb reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to continued cooperation, referencing the Joint Action Plan for 2025–2029, which sets a roadmap for collaboration in trade, environmental protection, education, and innovation. He also welcomed China’s role in global governance and expressed readiness for ongoing dialogue on regional and international issues.
Over the past seven decades, China has become Finland’s largest trading partner in Asia, with mutual investments exceeding €20 billion. Both countries continue to deepen cooperation through bilateral forums, environmental initiatives, and cultural exchanges — reflecting a future-oriented partnership rooted in mutual trust and global engagement.
