China Warns Japan Against Military Moves Near Taiwan

Date:

China has issued a strong warning to Japan, stating that Tokyo will “pay a heavy price” if it interferes in the Taiwan issue. The statement came after Japan announced progress on deploying medium-range missiles on Yonaguni Island, located just over 100 kilometers from Taiwan. Japanese officials claim the move is meant to deter conflict and reduce the risk of armed attack.
China reiterated that the Taiwan issue is entirely its internal matter, criticizing Japan for suggesting potential military involvement in any Taiwan-related scenario. Chinese defense officials accused Japan of ignoring its historical responsibilities and attempting to revive militaristic policies. They argued that such actions undermine the post–World War II international order.
Beijing also expressed concern over Japan’s broader security initiatives, including efforts to revise its constitution, expand defense spending, relax arms export controls, and consider changes to its longstanding non-nuclear principles. China warned that these developments threaten regional peace and stability.
Officials emphasized that China’s military is capable of countering any intervention and urged Japan to abandon policies that could escalate tensions in the region.
