China has called on the international community to work together to prevent Japan from returning to a path of militarism, stressing the importance of upholding the outcomes of the Second World War and international law.
Speaking at a United Nations meeting focused on the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity, a Chinese envoy highlighted the severe impact of Japanese militarism during the Second World War on China, other Asian countries, and global peace. He noted that crimes against humanity remain among the gravest threats to international stability.
The envoy emphasized the historical significance of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, which examined and judged crimes committed during Japan’s wartime aggression. He said the tribunal established important legal precedents and served as a reminder of the need to prevent the resurgence of expansionist policies.
China urged countries to safeguard the post-war international order, strengthen mechanisms to prevent and punish crimes against humanity, and promote peace and stability amid rising global tensions and regional conflicts.
