Xi Jinping, Kazakh President Advance Tech Collaboration in Shanghai Meeting

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev convened in Shanghai at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. Their meeting underscored the robust strategic partnership that both nations share, with a focus on deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

President Xi emphasized the importance of aligning the development strategies of both countries. He proposed expanding initiatives in trade, cross-border e-commerce, energy, transport, and the digital economy. The Chinese leader also highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas like artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, science, and culture. Additionally, Xi pointed to multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as crucial arenas for enhanced cooperation.

President Tokayev reciprocated by identifying China as Kazakhstan’s foremost foreign policy partner. He expressed his commitment to broadening the scope of cooperation in several key areas, including trade, investment, transportation, agriculture, energy, and AI governance. Tokayev’s remarks reflected Kazakhstan’s strategic interest in strengthening ties with China, particularly in sectors critical to both nations’ economic futures.

The meeting concluded with both leaders overseeing the signing of a series of cooperation agreements. These agreements span multiple domains, including trade, transport, finance, and media, signaling a shared vision for future collaboration and mutual growth. This development marks a new chapter in the Sino-Kazakh partnership, promising to foster stronger economic and technological ties.
